Rohde & Schwarz to deliver turnkey communications solutions for Dutch and Belgian ASW frigates
Germany’s Rohde & Schwarz has been awarded a contract by the Dutch Materiel and IT Command (COMMIT), part of the Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD), to supply its turnkey integrated communications system (ICS) for the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNlN) and the Belgian Naval Component. The equipment will be integrated on board the two countries‘ anti-submarine warfare (ASW) frigates currently on order.
As a systems partner and integrator for planning, developing, manufacturing and implementing secure communications architectures and networks, Rohde & Schwarz focuses on digital communications sovereignty. Today’s naval platforms carry an abundance of equipment that originates from several Rohde & Schwarz application segments.
As an earlier example, Rohde & Schwarz delivered the first land-based system for the Type 26 Global Combat Ship (GCS) currently under construction for the UK Royal Navy. The integrated communications system, built around its NAVICS naval communications system, interconnects the onboard voice terminals, as well as all other subsystems for internal and external communications via a shared IP network, with accreditable security gateways also provided by Rohde & Schwarz. This allows for seamless and secure communications services between voice terminals, ATEX smartphones and onboard/offboard telephony services. The system has an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI).
Under the present COMMIT contract, Rohde & Schwarz will also deliver its mission-proven NAVICS solution. The system will feature cyber security capabilities to ensure the secure exchange of sensitive information.
“We are proud to have been selected by COMMIT to supply the ICS for the ASW frigates of the RNlN and [Belgian Naval Component],” said Bart Walraven, managing director of Rohde & Schwarz Benelux B.V.
“Our multi-level secure NAVICS solution was chosen as the best basis to fulfill the stringent security requirements. On top of we incorporated numerous customer-specific requirements into the design, such as the modification of voice terminals and the integration of our communications control systems into the customers‘ integrated mission management system (IMMS). This tailored approach ensures seamless integration and optimal performance of the communications system,” Bart Walraven added.
Thomas Weber, director technical sales at Rohde & Schwarz, underlined the company’s position as a trusted system integrator, delivering complex solutions that meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. He explained: “Our expertise in integrating disparate systems and technologies has been consistently praised by clients, including COMMIT [communications intelligence], who commended our professionalism and exceptional work quality during the proposal phase. By leveraging our extensive knowledge and experience in both the Netherlands and Germany, we are able to provide seamless, end-to-end solutions that cater to the unique needs of our clients in Belgium and the Netherlands. Our ability to navigate the intricacies of both markets enables us to deliver tailored solutions that drive success and foster long-term partnerships.”
