Rohde & Schwarz to deliver turnkey communications solutions for Dutch and Belgian ASW frigates

Germany’s Rohde & Schwarz has been awarded a contract by the Dutch Materiel and IT Command (COMMIT), part of the Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD), to supply its turnkey integrated communications system (ICS) for the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNlN) and the Belgian Naval Component. The equipment will be integrated on board the two countries‘ anti-submarine warfare (ASW) frigates currently on order.

Still a long way to sail

Officers from 51 navies who were accorded a tour of the Indian Navy’s INS Vikrant, during last February’s biennial „Milan“ (Multilateral Naval) Exercise held by the Eastern Naval Command, were deeply impressed by India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier (IAC-1).

The propulsion system of the German F126 frigate

Launched in 2020, the F126 programme is the German Navy’s latest frigate programme – following the contract extension, the new-building project will consist of six units.

Although these are very capable systems, the trend towards smaller, less skilled crews led to a need for simpler, yet flexible and highly automated propulsion systems.
